Contact Admin. This first photo is a three-parter of a tire shop that opened up about 1km from our apartment: First, it only took a matter of weeks to pop this little guy up. From start to finish took just one month.
Even more dramatically, the first picture on the left was taken on November 15, and the middle picture was taken on November This gives you an idea of how quickly things are built around here. The next image is made up of two photos taken right outside of our workplace.
You can see the EiE decals on the 4th and 5th floor that prevent us from enjoying what would otherwise be an excellent view. Anyway, the photo on the left was taken on September 15th, and the photo on the right was taken less than six months later: Notice the hi-rises on the right?
Those are apartment buildings that will soon be full of successful business-class families. What you are observing is suburbanization, Korean style. There are over a dozen apartment buildings surrounding our academy that are currently under construction. I feel bad for the teachers who end up replacing us. To some, this could be seen as an incredible success story. However, it can also get quite ridiculous. It makes me wonder if I would even recognize Mokpo if I came back here in 10 years.
It seems to permeate throughout all aspects of Korean life. If you get into a taxi, prepare to accelerate towards upcoming red lights just so the driver can get to the intersection sooner.
