A man thought he was about to go to bed with a prostitute when a gang member burst in with a kitchen knife and demanded money. The victim was left bound and gagged in a motel room after being lured from an Auckland bar by the prospect of sex, court documents reveal. Terrance Rudolph was sentenced to two years and 10 months' imprisonment in May for her part in the robbery, which also involved two other women and a man.
The victim agreed to pay Goodson for sex, the judgment said. The group arrived at an Epsom motel, and the victim and Goodson went into a bedroom together. The fourth offender, Nykell-T Hegotule, then burst into the bedroom armed with a large kitchen knife and wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with a gang logo. Hegotule demanded the victim's money and threatened to stab him. Robertson and Rudolph came into the room, holding the victim's phone and a knife respectively.
The victim tried to flee through a ranch slider, but Robertson and Rudolph blocked him from leaving. He was hit again, then bound and gagged. The victim was abandoned at the motel, still bound and gagged. Eventually he managed to free himself and get medical treatment for a fractured eye socket and concussion.
His money was never recovered. Rudolph's co-offenders were all sentenced last year on various charges including aggravated robbery and kidnapping, and are serving time in prison. Rudolph was sentenced later because she removed her tracking bracelet while on electronically monitored bail in late and absconded.
She was only arrested again in November She eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and dishonestly using a document. Rudolph appealed her sentence on the grounds there was a "marked and unjustifiable disparity" between her and her co-offenders' sentences, Justice Dunningham said. Rudolph's lawyer submitted she should have received a bigger discount for personal mitigating factors, rather than 10 per cent.
